The territory of Gran Paradiso with its white mountains is an ideal location for beginners approaching skiing. Grown-up and children here can easily ski on quiet slopes and linger around along wood paths on their cross-country skis. In springtime it's quite common to see and observe, not far from the tracks, chamois and ibexes grazing on the first grass in the meadows.
The territory being so varied, skiers have at their disposal several small skiing resorts suitable for advanced ones and beginners who can hire their equipment in the site.
Rhêmes-Notre-Dame, Valgrisenche and Valsavarenche dispose of both cross-country and downhill ski. Arvier (Planaval), Introd (Les Combes), Saint-Nicolas (Fossaz, Col de Joux) and Saint-Pierre (Vetan) offer several cross-country itineraries.
Thanks to the artificial lighting it is also possible to ski (cross-country) at night in Saint Nicolas and in Valsavarenche, locations which dispose also of a snow making system together with Rhêmes-Notre-Dame.
Ski schools are there too introduce new ones to the ski or refine good skiers' style.
