Here it is a typical mountain rural community where you breath a special atmosphere. This small village used to be even smaller, one century ago, when few hamlets were surrounded by enormous meadows and lands grown with potatoes, rye and hemp.
Steep are the opposite sides of the valley, across the river, with pine and larches woods. Perfumed are the flowers, the meadows, the hay laying on the grass.
The antique origin of the village is showed by some ruins. The typical houses in the hamlet of Vieux and Coveyrand date back to 1696 and look like the Cascina L'Ola in Introd. Let's walk through the village to see chapels and ovens, across the covered peculiar passages of the Alps. Here you'll find the small history, made of ordinary people and their sacrifices, people working in the land, spending evenings in the stable handing down traditions to their sons.
Rhêmes-Saint-Georges shows also its dynamic aspect being ready to welcome the demanding tourist. Snow-shoes trails, trekking, mountain bike, horse riding, free climbing; after a long day, full immersed in sport activities, it is time to savour the typical cuisine of a farm-holiday.
The community of Rhêmes-Saint-Georges is highly close to their land and traditions which revive in summer during various events: the cooking of brown bread and pizza, the benediction of agricultural tools and work animals during Sant'Antonio fest.
And the wild boar in August has a leading role in the gastronomic event: chops, sausages, civet and dancing time!
